Aprilov National High School

The Aprilov National High School (Национална Априловска гимназия) in Gabrovo is the first modern secular school in Bulgaria. It was opened on 2 January 1835, when Bulgaria was still part of the Ottoman Empire, with the financial help of Vasil Aprilov, Nikola Palauzov, Vasil Rasheev and other wealthy Bulgarians and was based on the Bell-Lancaster method. Formed as the Gabrovo School, it took the name of its primary benefactor, Vasil Aprilov, in 1889....

The 2009 Afghanistan earthquake was an earthquake of 5.5 moment magnitude that occurred in eastern Afghanistan on 15 April 2009, 01:57 local time (21:27 GMT). The earthquake was followed two hours later by an aftershock of 5.1 moment magnitude. The quakes struck about 50 miles (90 km) east of Kabul near the Pakistan border. A government representative told AP News that the quakes killed 22 people, wounded 20 and destroyed 100 homes....

The 23 April 2009 Iraqi suicide attacks were two separate suicide attacks which occurred in Baghdad and Muqdadiyah, Iraq, on 23 April 2009. At least seventy-six people are known to have died in the attacks, including several Iranian pilgrims. The Los Angeles Times puts the death toll at seventy-nine. Most of the forty-eight people killed in Muqdadiyah, near Baqubah, Diyala Province, are believed to have been Iranian nationals. According to the BBC, if the death tolls are confirmed, these attacks were the most lethal of 2009....

The April 2010 Sumatra earthquake was a 7.8 Mw earthquake that occurred on April 7, 2010, at 5:15 AM local time (April 6, 2010, 22:15 UTC) near Banyak Islands, off the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. A tsunami watch was issued according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu which was later canceled. A 40 cm surge was reported in the Banyak Islands an hour after the quake, along with 62 injuries. Power outages were reported throughout the province of North Sumatra as well as in Aceh.
